The Best Dakgalbi Restaurant in Yeoncheon, Korea : Kkaennip Dakgalbi

  While traveling in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggido, we discussed what to and where to eat or get takeout for lunch, and we found out this unique Dakgalbi restaurant, called Kkaennip Dakgalbi.


  What is dakgalbi? It is globally popular Korean food these days. Dak() means a chicken, and galbi(갈비) is one of the most globally famous Korean traditional meat foods, which is made with sweet soy sauce, sometimes spicy gochujang. Meat for galbi is a type of flesh with bone, and beef, pork and chicken, any kind of meat can be galbi. So dakgalbi is made of chicken, as you can guess.


  In the past years Korean dakgalbi has increasingly become famous around the world, thanks to K-media contents and social media. This restaurant had been a famous place in Yeoncheon, the nothern part of Gyeonggi area in the long time, and since it moved to other town in Yeoncheon and opened newly recently, it has attracted more and more people. Partly it is because of its trendy and simple exterior and interior. And mostly it is because its dakgalbi is very good.


  We arrived the dakgalbi restaurant around noon. It looked there were some seats we could take, but strangely dakbalbi was being cooked on every table with empty seats. It turned out people called the restaurant to make a reservation and asked them to cook dakgalbi in advance. Because they wanted to eat the food as soon as arriving. I found out that it is a new trend to eat dakgalbi at famous restaurants in Korea. So to us takeout was the only option at the time.


  Kkaennip is sesame leaves in Korean which is one of basic ingredients of dakgalbi. But this restaurant suggests a unique way to eat dakgalbi with kkaennip. First put flying fish roe on a kkaennip, and top dakgalbi on it, and then wrap the kkaennip and eat it in one bite. It is fantastic.


  After eating all dakgalbi on the pan, don’t forget to make fried rice with leftover and mozzarella. When you eat dakgalbi at any restaurant, it is a principle to have fried rice made with leftover in Korea. We never miss it when we eat dakgalbi. You are going to love it.


  We ordered the one mixed with pork. Besides chicken, pork and kkaennip, squid, cabbage, sweet potato and garaetteok(kind of Korean rice cake) are main ingredients of their dakgalbi. It was so good, even though we cooked takeout at home. When you have a chance to go to Yeoncheon, visit Kkaennip Dakgalbi. You will like it.

- How to get Kkaennip Dakgalbi


  The location is 16-24 Hyeonmun-ro-26-beongil, Yeoncheon-eup, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do. It is like a small house. When you travel to Yeoncheon, I recommend to drive a car. Using public transportation is not easy. Renting a car or using a tour agency for one day trip in Yeoncheon would be the best option. Its country roads are so beautiful that you can enjoy driving.
