In Korea you can see the signal everywhere that it goes into deep deep autumn. Leaves are turning their colors, people go out to enjoy fall and the blue sky before winter comes.

In spring Korea is covered with flowers, in summer green, in autumn yellow and red leaves, and in winter it is covered with white snow. What a colorful country!

We traveled to Yeoncheon, bordering our city Paju, to feel autumn in the beautiful weekend. Our destination was the Daebssari Park(댑싸리 공원). Daebssari means broom cypress which is a kind of a bush that is used to make a broom and medicine. A Korean traditional broom is called ssari-bitjaru whose name is came from daebssari.

Normally it is green and it turns gradually pink and red in autumn. Yeoncheon government made and established this park last year. It opens from August with rich green leaves to November with flaming red color every year. They say that they make brooms with the bare bushes in winter.

Not only broom cypresses but also plenty of beautiful flowers including Mexican Aster, zinnia, canna and marigold are in the park. Honey bees and butterflies were very busy to fly between flowers.

Alex and Soo in flowers. Alex is pushing her wheelchair.    Soo sitting in a swing bench in broom cypresses.

Standing in the narrow path between the bushes looks like bathing in big red fuzzy balls. You can make so instagrammable photos. We could see people were taking pictures standing, sitting or jumping in the red bushes. And there were many benches and swings everywhere in the park that can be nice photo zones. We took many great pictures like art works too. Thanks God, the weather was perfect.

Driving along ginkgo trees

We left home early morning, around 8:00 a.m., because we are early bird travelers to try to avoid heavy traffic and the crowds. It takes about an hour from Paju to Yeoncheon by a car. Yeoncheon has no train system. Only two ways, bus or car. But instead of that they have wonderful drive courses along rivers, Imjin-gang and Hantan-gang, golden rice fields and yellow ginkgo trees especially in autumn. So renting a car would be a good choice. Even using the parking lot of Daebssari Park is free.

First we stopped at OZ Bakery Cafe in Yeoncheon to have breakfast. It opens at 7:00 a.m. We arrived the bakery cafe at 9:00 a.m. and ate some bread and coffee. Freshly baked and warm bread and hot coffee in the morning is always good!

After finishing breakfast at 10:00 a.m., we drove for 30 minutes to Daebssari Park passing by beautiful ginkgo tree streets and golden rice fields waiting the upcoming harvest. When we arrived there were already many early birds in the park, but it was not so crowded. At the park entrance were food vendors. They supply light Korean foods, so it would be good to have small breakfast or snack there. Visitors were families with children, friends, young couples and the elderly. In the beautiful flowers and bushes they all looked happy.

When we left the park at 11:30 p.m., the park got much more crowded and the parking lot was full of cars, but still good, not overcrowded.

Then we headed to the dakgalbi restaurant, Kkaennip Dakgalbi to get a takeaway for lunch at home.

Information about Oz Bakery Cafe is here. https://tnb4earlybirds.blogspot.com/2022/10/oz-bakery-cafe-in-yeoncheon-river-view.html

I am going to post about Kkaennip Dakgalbi soon.

- How to get Daebssari Park

It takes about an hour and half from Seoul by a car. The location is 422 Samgot-ri, Jung-myeon, Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi-do. I highly recommend to rent a car or use a tour agency service. Otherwise take a taxi at Soyosan subway station in Line No.1 of Seoul Metro.

- Opening hour

It opens 24/7 from August to November.
