Irresistible K-Toast with Reasonable Price : Egg Drop

  In Korea we have our own styled toast called street toast(gilgeori toast in Korean) which means toast supplied by street vendors. Most of Koreans have good memories with street toast. Back in my twenties, I used to had street toast and coffee milk for breakfast standing at the street vendor on the way to the office almost everyday. It was so cheap breakfast at the time. Still street toast is a good option for people who have to tighten purse strings.

  Ever since Korean street toast has evolved, and now we have some franchising brands for it. Egg Drop is one of them. When it was launched, it was so different to other Korean ordinary toast and good reviews were spread that people wished they had the store in their neighborhood. Now we can see Egg Drop in almost every town. In my town we have two stores.

  Once you bite it, you may think you have never had toast like this before. Literally many foreigners say like that. First you will be attracted by its buttery smell, then its savory taste, and finally its nutritious combination of ingredients for toast. Their signature is scrambled eggs in toast.

  Egg Drop has became famous not only in Korea but also all around the world, since it was shown on the Korean TV drama, Hospital Playlist. In the show, Dr. Lee bought his son Egg Drop very often. Actually I got to know Egg Drop via the TV show first. You can watch Hospital Playlist on Netflix. And now many global influencers show meokbang with Egg Drop on their social media or Youtube.

  Prices are resonable. The cheapest item is 3,900 won and the more you add options the higher the price goes.

  That day when I got Egg Drop takeout, Min had a terrible cold and couldn’t go to school. Fortunately he tested negative for Covid-19. I asked him what he’d like to have for lunch and he said he wanted Egg Drop and hot choco. So I bought two for him and one for me. Sometimes teens can eat a lot even when they are sick. That’s amazing I think.
