A 100-Year Legacy of Red Bean Burns - Sanjeong Hosu Bakery

We always think where to eat breakfast when we plan a trip. We always want to avoid heavy traffic and the big crowds — everybody does — so we check the opening hour of the destination and search places nearby where we can have breakfast before arriving our destination.
Fortunately we could find this bakery cafe which is opened in very early morning, because our destination, the Sanjeong Lake area, is the hot attraction of hiking around the lake and the mountains, and many restaurants and cafes in the area open in very early morning for early-bird hikers.
We left home at 7:30 a.m., arrived there around 9:00 a.m., and realized that we were not real early birds. Around the cafe and the parking lot of the lake were already full of people wearing hiking or climbing outfits. It was amazing.
1. Location of Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe
Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe is located in the commercial site of Sanjeong Lake, right next to the parking lot. Whether you drive a car or ride a bus, the parking lot and the commercial site is the first spot to access to the lake. It was so convenient that first we parked the car at the parking lot and went to the cafe right there.
2. Features of Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe
Actually Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe is not just famous for its location by the lake, but also their special product. That is sweet red bean burns. They say that their family recipe of sweet red bean burns has been handed down for four generations, about 100 years. Their burns and cafe have been on a TV show about food and sightseeing and there is a big banner in front of the cafe saying they were on the TV show.
When we arrived the cafe, the tray of the burn was empty, because they were sold out. But soon it was filled again, and after we picked one, the tray became empty soon again. No worries. They continuously make the burns quickly like a factory. Pretty much soon sold out though.
Their burns are big, filled with quality red bean paste, and not too much sweet. Freshly baked bread and coffee is always good. Other than a red bean burn, we had a red bean and cream burn and a bacon bread roll. Soo had chocolate latte and a doughnut filled with white bean paste.
It is a quite big cafe. Two storied building with a terrace and a rooftop which is a photo zone.
The price of a red bean burn is 3,000 won, and they offer a pack of 10 red bean burns 28,000 won.
If you post photos of the bakery cafe on your Instagram with some hashtags and show it them, you can get a free red bean burn. I did.
3. Overall Review on Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe
It was good that its location was very next to the parking lot of Sanjeong Lake. Inside of the store is wide.
They have various items of bread, cakes, coffee and beverages. Taste was good. Actually we wanted to have more bread there, but we had to save room for lunch.
The price of americano is 4,900 won. I think their coffee and beverages are kind of expensive. Chocolate latte Soo had is 7,000 won.
If you want to try Korean red bean paste bread, and look for a local cafe to relax with coffee while touring around the lake, Sanjeong Hosu Bakery Cafe would be a good choice. If you want more budget friendly and light breakfast, there are other stores in the commercial site the parking lot such as the convenient store, the toast store and Ediya(the Korean cafe brand).
